Long Distance Marriage
Long-distance relationships can be challenging, but they can also be meaningful and rewarding. For couples who are committed to making it work, distance can actually strengthen their bond and bring the couple closer together.
Such is the case of this long distance couple, Urvashi and Risshi, who have endured a 4 year long distance marriage beautifully. Here is another episode of #newshadesoflove featuring long-distance marriage.
Urvashi is the face of Qatar Airways. Rishi, on the other hand, owns an accountancy firm and is a big cricket enthusiast. His firm asks him to be a Mumbai resident while Urvashi resides in Doha, Qatar. Despite the physical distance between them, these two individuals have found ways to be each other's support system. As we interacted with Urvashi and Risshi, connected by video call, we realized this was also the way they kept in touch - through video calls. Their daily to-do list includes setting up regular phone and video chat sessions, sending care packages and surprise gifts, or listening and offering encouragement when a partner is experiencing hardship. In a strange twist of fate, Urvashi and Rishi met through a common friend, became friends, talked once a week, and gradually became each other's life partners.
Because the two are coming from locations with two different time zones, it gets hard for them to communicate or stay updated about each other. Although both of them are persistent when it comes to making efforts, they never back down. As Risshi told us, his gym time is roughly equivalent to the time Urvashi’s flight lands. Rishi generally wakes up around 4 am for his yoga hour. This is when he calls his wife to make sure if her flight has landed safely and where she is heading next. At times, it can be difficult for both of them when they have busy schedules, but they believe it is extremely valuable to prioritize quality time together whenever possible.
It is interesting to note that they do not act like a married couple, and this is one thing that sparks up their bond. “We never behave like a husband and wife, we always have to act like a girlfriend-boyfriend”, quoted Urvashi when asked about any ritual that they have been following for long.
Coming to the end of the conversation, the couple even added that no matter what, ultimately, the beauty of a long-distance relationship lies in the commitment and effort that both partners put into it. By embracing the unique challenges of this shade of love, couples can build a bond that is strong, resilient, and truly special.
